Chef Manager Jobs description

Chef Managers lead culinary teams that are responsible for food production. They supervise cooks and oversee the preparation, portioning, garnishing, and storage of food.

Primary duties and responsibilities of a Chef Manager include: estimating food consumption and purchasing food; assisting in cooking and preparing food as and when the need arises; maintaining kitchen and storage facilities in sanitary condition; managing cash; and interacting with customers on a regular basis.

It is essential for Chef Managers to come honed with the following skill set: demonstrated culinary management competency, including strength in: food quality, presentation, and food safety; demonstrated leadership skills to provide recruitment, direction, development, and supervision of a diverse group of hourly employees; excellent customer service experience, including the ability to develop and present menus to high profile catering clients; financial and analytical skills to manage to food cost, labor, and controllable targets in culinary operations; highly developed organizational skills, including attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to manage multiple and conflicting priorities, multiple event sites, meet deadlines, and delegate with accountability.

Chef Managers also need to have: excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with a diverse group; the ability to develop and maintain professional, trusting, positive working relationships with supervisors, managers, customers and staff; and computer proficiency, including ability to learn and utilize new computer software quickly and daily.

Chef Managers usually report to the General Manager.
