Giants of Food Service Industry

Currently, there are quite a few restaurants that are thought of as the ''giants'' of the food service industry. There are indeed so many that to think of them all can be more than a little daunting. For just that reason, all restaurants and dining establishments are categorized into one of four major types; Fast Food, Fast Casual (Quick Service), Casual Dining (Family Style) and Fine Dining.

The Fast Food category is the one that people are most well versed in. Two of the most distinguishing features of fast food restaurants are as follows: the ability to order and receive food in less than two minutes and the lack of dishes and flatware. When one thinks of the Fast Food sector, many names come to mind but the few that everyone seems to know stay the same: Burger King, Subway, White Castle, Kentucky Fried Chicken and the corporate giant called McDonalds.

To go one step up the ladder of the food service industry and you'll find the restaurants classified as Quick-Service or 'Fast Casual'. Fast Casual restaurants oftentimes offer a higher quality in both food and atmosphere. While the term may be unfamiliar, one will come across many other names they recognize, chief among them will be Panera Bread, Pizza Hut, Noodles and Company and Chipotle Mexican Grill.

Our next classification of dining is the Casual restaurant. Casual dining restaurants serve moderately-priced food in a casual atmosphere and most often offer table service Namely Applebees Bar and Grill, TGIFridays, Big Boy, Bennigans and Outback Steakhouse.
Finally, we have the Fine Dining establishments. Nearly all fine dining establishments are privately owned and usually encompass a single location. They tend to be finely decorates, have a nicely dressed, well trained staff and run themselves as full service restaurants with specific dedicated meal courses.
