While these jobs are not in assembly, the duties of assemblers have changed in recent years. The assembly lines have competition from assembly teams. The difference is, workers do not have to be in a line. The team knows other jobs than their own so they can move around to avoid clashes. The change of teams makes the work more like being in a kitchen. All workers have a job to do and it contributes to the completion of food processing, as in the bakery.

The pay rate stays the same for most related jobs at approximately $11.00 an hour. Many of the jobs offer full time but don't be surprised if it's occasionally part-time hours. Hourly rates increase in the food service industry with movement to higher positions like supervisor and manager. It's an easy way to increase your take home pay by 10,000 or 15,000 a year, if you add better educational qualifications to your resume. As you get further in your career you will also build up your years of experience which is sometimes equivalent to education in the food services field.

The better paying jobs, besides management and supervising are chef jobs. They can make $35,000 to $80,000 a year depending on education and experience. It's a great job in food services. Chefs work in many different places. There are people that hire chefs to come into their houses and cook meals. Some chefs just go to the client once a week and prepare all the food for that week.

What's the job outlook for the next ten years?
This is a good field and will remain stable even in the economic downturn. Shifting is predicted in the manufacturing lines when assemblers change from the plant to firms. The change is predicted as manufacturers outsource their needs for assemblers and replace those workers with more management jobs and supervisor jobs. The companies can source it out to cheaper firm than keep it in house.
