Food Services Assistant Jobs
Food service assistants take orders for meals, prepare and serve food, take money, clear tables, and wash up. They are employed in self-service cafeterias, canteens, and fast food outlets.
When food service assistants work in self-service cafeterias, fast food outlets, works canteens, tearooms, coffee shops, sandwich bars, and mobile catering vans, they: take orders at the counter and serve hot or cold food on plates; take the payment at the till; clear and clean tables from time to time and set food out on the self-service counter; and might help to wash pans and load dishwashers.
In fast food outlets, food service assistants do a lot of different tasks. They: put deliveries into the stock rooms; prepare and heat up food; serve customers from behind a counter (taking their order and payment, and handing them their food); clear tables; and do general cleaning. Here, food service assistants work in teams and may spend a couple of hours doing one task before swapping with another team member and doing something different.
Candidates must be able to: get along well with different types of people and deal tactfully with customers who complain or are rude. They need to have a lot of stamina and when times get busy, they\'ll have to work fast and stay calm. Most importantly, candidates should have a high standard of personal cleanliness because they\'ll have direct contact with foods.
Food service assistants are also referred to as cafe assistants, canteen assistants, catering assistants, and fast food assistants.
